well you cant go wrong with motul transoil expert. Its about 20 bucks (aud) but really any 10w 30 or 40 will be fine in your gearbox, just make sure you spend at least 15 bucks otherwise you are getting pretty shitty oil. What kind of oil should i put in my rm250, for the gears?

Anything wrong with using motor oil(synthethic) on a bicycle chain and gears?
Synthetic motor oil now days is certainly thin enough for chain use. the molecular structure of synthetic oil is fantastic and is great at what it is designed to do - resist high sheer loads in an engine. That is all it is really good for. On a chain you do not have sheer but rotational friction inside the roller at the pin. That is actually the only place that the lubrication is necessary. The very reason why chain lubricants are made to penetrate is the outside needs no lubrication.
You don't want to use motor oil because it will:
1. Sling off the chain as it it made to film off of parts and be pumped though a filter and back into engine parts. Engineers worked really hard to make it perfect for that job.
2. Attract dirt. Another property that those good petroleum engineers did was make a product that carries the contaminants to the filter. Bikes don't of course have that filter so the gritty material will wear your chain and gears.
3. It is wash out resistant. Good for resisting rain, but it resists mild chain cleaners too. Oh, you can cut it, but usually to remove it all you need a solvent not detergent.
The types of products you want for a chain:
1. Wax based ';dry'; lubricant. This is a modern formulation of a wax made to emulate paraffin that used to be melted onto chains. This new chemical mix is a carrying solvent and wax that penetrates where you need it and the solvent evaporates leaving the wax behind to do the lubrication. Since wax is dry no attraction of dirt. Wax is also very water proof so it's good in the rain. Draw back is that this formula is the hardest to clean off a chain, and your chain had to be thoroughly cleaned of any petroleum before using. It won't stick to the metal of the chain with a petroleum film in the way. Read the label.
2. Dry Teflon Lube. Very good lubrication as Teflon is the slipperiest substance known. It works with a carrying agent just like the wax. It is a bit wetter as the carrier has a light oil to try to keep the Teflon in place as Teflon itself is transferable. Too slippery to stay on it's own when not baked on like a frying pan. Teflon as a lubricant is like tiny micron sized bearings and they are in the plastic family. They wont break down in water but can be flushed out easily with detergents that break down the carrying oil.
3. Wet lubes. Think of them as just better oil for the task than motor oil. They still attract dirt and need more cleaning. Water resistant to rain and actually the best choice in the rain, as long as you know you will have a cleaning job when you are done in the rain.
4. New tech ceramic impregnated lube. This is the new twist on the wax and Teflon. A carrier bring ceramic powder that burnishes onto the metal. It takes a couple applications to get it right with break in riding in between. (read the label) It promises to be the best of all words -- if it works.Anything wrong with using motor oil(synthethic) on a bicycle chain and gears?
Yes -- it attracts dirt and grime like there's no tomorrow, and any bike shop mechanic that has to work on your rig is going to want to punch you in the head.
As a bicycle mechanic, nothing annoys me more. Spend $7 on a tube of synthetic, bicycle-specific chain lube -- it's designed to lubricate without attracting more dirt into the chain (which reduces its lifespan). Only requires a few drops. A tube should last you at least a year.Anything wrong with using motor oil(synthethic) on a bicycle chain and gears?
Motor oil is too thick to use on bicycle chains. You want a thin mineral oil that can get into the rollers and provide lubrication. You never want to oil a dirty chain because it will wash the grit into the rollers. You want to degrease the chain and remove the grid before oiling. Never use WD-40

I say NO without having any facts to back my opinion. Have never seen any facts to justify expensive commercial chain lube either. Lots of hype, but no facts. Maybe somebody can point us to them.
Clean well, oil, and wipe down real good. Use the lowest weight oil you can get. The wiping is important to retard the accumulation of road grit on the exterior parts of the chain.
I think one of the selling points of chain lubes is less accumulation of grit, and they aren't as messy when applying. After a few miles tho, my chains are just as black using chain lubes as with motor oil. And the crap won't hardly wash out of fabric, especially anything synthetic.
Sheldon Brown in the link talks about ';oil'; without specifying anything.
Edit: Give McG the 10 points he deserves for the most informed answer.
Other than Making a Mess and wearing off, Nothing.
if you use Oil for Bicycle chains, it has a ingredient that bonds to the chain to protect it from moisture, regular motor oil does not have this, and comes off the chain during use.
regular oils attract dirt and break down faster. bicycle lube with teflon is the best ( finishline) brand. i know i've had to clean up lots of chains and drive lines. use to have own shop and still do maint %26amp; repair.
Yes! Don't be cheap, get the good stuff. But if you are asking this question, you are probably stupid enough that you bought your bike from walmart, so go ahead, smoother it in motor oil and have fun.

Spark Plugs? Oil? Clutch? Gears? Sensors?
Here is my situation, I have a Rover 214 (head gasket has just been redone) and for the past month when I am driving the temperature is what it should be the rev's are normal for the speed, but when I accelerate (usually from 1st or 2nd gear) It feels like I am going up a steep hill, just like the power has been sucked out, like when you turn air con on and you feel the power drain, so I am asking what the most likely cause is? could this be caused by spark plugs? or could it be low oil? or could it be worse like Clutch, Gears or Sensors? Please help.Spark Plugs? Oil? Clutch? Gears? Sensors?
Have the transmission checked.Spark Plugs? Oil? Clutch? Gears? Sensors?
It sounds as if the fuel delivery system has been compromised. Fuel filter and fuel pressure should be thoroughly checked as well as a complete dealer fuel injection cleaning.

Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?
Hi,
I own 2003 Suzuki GZ250 from last 2 months. I drove around 1500 miles on that. I make oil changes to my car regularly, but when it comes to motorcycle oil change I never did it. The oil looks dirty, so I thought to change oil %26amp; filter. I went to Advance Auto Parts store to look for oil filter %26amp; oil. The closest I found was for “250CC-GS250 (1980-1981)” of Fram filter CH6000 and oil is 10W40.
Can anyone tell me is that Fram CH6000 oil filter is any good for GZ250? And what about 10W40 oil, the manual says use 10W40, any suggestions on that ? Please let me know is there any online website , that you can order oil filters and what that filter model is ? (I live 60 miles north to Atlanta, GA. Any stores around this area? )
Another question is , some times when I shift gears, I feels like it got stuck and I have to slam the gears, does anyone got that problem ?
Is 10W40 oil has impact on how gear system works ? Is there any better oil ?Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?
A Suzuki GS250 was a 250cc twin; the early 80's GN250 engine is exactly like yours. I don't think there is a replaceable oil filter in the GN/GZ model, but a metal mesh strainer? If it is, you would clean it with gasoline.
I'd use a motorcycle specific engine oil. These little motors don't hold much, and if you spend $10 on oil every 3000 miles, it'll last a long time.
I normally use a 20w-50 oil on any air-cooled engine. If your shifting problem doesn't go away after you replace the oil, check first the clutch free play. If that's okay, you may have some bent shifter forks. Better brush up on the service manual.Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?
Go with Amsoils motorcycle specific 10w-40.
They most likely have an oil filter for your application as well. Just go to the application guide and plug in your year model and make.

An oil change can make a great difference on how shifting works. Also, go to the dealer, or online for your filter. The engine is claose, but may not be exactly the same. You need to change at least once a year or 3000 miles. 10W40 is fine, 20W50 will work too, although harder to crank in cold weather.

Automatic, can feel switch gears after runs for about 30=45 mins. Just had oil change and fluids topped off?
My car runs fine for a little while, then when I put my foot on the gas pedal, I can feel the car jerk into gear. The first time this happened, two days ago, the service engine soon light came on. It has since gone off, but will continue to act like that after driving for about 30-45 minutes. Maxda RX8, sticky gears, doesn't like lower gears and moisture on oil stick. Told these are normal, are they?
Moisture on dipstick is normal. There is a bulletin / repair procedure to reduce the amount found. As for the sticky gears, bleed the clutch and have the pedal checked for flexing / breakage of the clutch pedal bracket - seen a few of those - as this will make the 'gears stick' because the mainshaft is spinning when it shouldn't because of improper clutch clearance.
also have the trans oil checked for metal particles because RX-8 transmissions' sposed ta shift like butter.Maxda RX8, sticky gears, doesn't like lower gears and moisture on oil stick. Told these are normal, are they?

Maxda RX8, sticky gears, doesn't like lower gears and moisture on oil stick. Told these are normal, are they?
The moisture on a dip stick on the RX8 is perfectly normal. This is because they do not have a head gasket. You can now get a jacket fitted to reduce this build up but is really nothing to worry about.
The moisture on the dipstick is normal for an RX-8.
I have never had a problem with sticky gears in my '05 RX-8.
Natalie has no idea what she is talking about... ';user error';
Mazda(and most car companies) use brass for their synchronizers inside the transmissions. synchros basically line up your gears when u shift. Brass is a soft metal making it prone to wear, most commonly in lower gears because people tend to beat up on them, usually second gear. Fluid treatments do help, and i would recommend getting your fluid changed and using an additive. If the problem continues you may want to have it serviced, but it will be expensive because the parts themselves are inside the very center of your transmission.
When you say moisture do you mean that there is water in you're oil? Doe's you're oil look kinda creamy off white? Does you're car get hot quick? If the above is happening then you possibly have a cracked block. If not try this*
Put some Dura lube or if you do not have a lot of money try tranny honey in you're transmission this should loosen it up. sometimes dirt gets in there and grinds you're gears and makes shifting ruff. Good luck to you!
The foam on the dipstick is completely normal for the RX8. You will see this in colder weather and it's nothing to worry about.
As for shifting getting notchey, you're probably due to have the tranny oil changed. The friction coefficient of oils changes with use and this can affect gear meshing.
That doesn't sound normal on any car
Um, no it is not NORMAL. However it is certainly not unusual for RX8, which may be the worst car made in the past 15 years.
What posessed you to buy the lemon? never mind, Just be prepared to spend most of the time you own it in rental cars, because it will be in the shop 20 - 30 times in 40 months.
Even the replacement transmissions you can get are iffy quality, because they aren't really engineered to go with the rotary engine.
I suppose you already know about the starting troubles, flooding and stalling. There is a TSB about the moisture in the oil. Some of the transmission troubles can be fixed with a reflash, but those reflashes for the engine and transmission tend to diminish the performance.

How much oil and what type should i put on bike chain and gears?
got it today and they are completely dry, is that how they are supposed to be nowadaysHow much oil and what type should i put on bike chain and gears?
The chain will have its factory grease on the chain which is the best so leave it for a while before you lube. After that use teflon spray lube like
GT85 or similar.
The wax lubes in my view don't last more than 50 miles each time. You go through it in no time and becomes expensive.
3/1 isn't suitable as its too thick and will pick up dirt and clog up your gears. How much oil and what type should i put on bike chain and gears?
You want to use a good chain oil sold at a bicycle shop. Walmart started selling White Lighting which is a good brand. You always want to clean the grime from your chain before you oil, otherwise you will wash the grit into the chain.
http://bicycletutor.com/part/chain/
Put a drop of dry teflon lube onto each chain rivet and run it through all of the gears and then dry it off with a rag. Slow but the best way to do it.
Hey Goatsucker the 2nd u didn't say what kind of bike it is, motor or push? if motor buy a chain bath %26amp; boil the chain for 20-30mins if push then any light oil 3-in-1 should do it!
It probably has a dry-film lube. Anyway, little and often is good. Pop into any bike shop and pick-up what catches your eye.
coat lightly with light oil, little and often.Happy cycling.

Should oil be coming out of my crankcase pressure releif hose after running in 4th-6th gear for awhile?
i have a 06 Yamaha Blaster and after i get done riding it in 4th-6th gear full throttle for a while i will stop to let it cool down, but when i do i notice that it has oil coming from the crankcase relief hose and i dont know if it is suposed to be doing that. i did try and plug it and the piging noise i have in the head went away but when i removed the hose i had a lot of pressure in the crank. so i was woundering if there is a way to keep the oil in the crankcase but let the air out.
OH YEA i just bought this bike 2 weeks ago and its my first 2 stroke so i dont know alot about 2 strokes.Should oil be coming out of my crankcase pressure releif hose after running in 4th-6th gear for awhile?
What mileage has the bike done? Excessive crankcase ventilation is a sign of worn rings.....you will normally get some fumes from the crankcase as the oil heats up,this is normal, its drawn back into the inlet manifold to be burnt off.Don't plug it,you'll end up blowing a main seal....Should oil be coming out of my crankcase pressure releif hose after running in 4th-6th gear for awhile?
No! Oil should never be coming out of the crankcase for ANY reason. You've got blowby from worn internal part that's causing excess pressure in your crankcase.

Oil is never suppose to come OUT of anywhere on the engine.
Something is wrong with your Blaster.
Good Luck...Should oil be coming out of my crankcase pressure releif hose after running in 4th-6th gear for awhile?
Remove the oil fill cap - does it smell like there is gas in the crankcase?
If so, the crank seal could be leaking - pressure from the engine could be blowing into the crankcase.
the blaster is a 2 stroke engine
the crankcase is sealed from the rest of the engine
you use oil in the engine for the transmission gears and the clutch
are you sure the oil level isn't over filled?discount makeup

What kind of oil do i put into my 1974 mt250 honda in the crankcase for the gears?
i know that 2 cycle goes into the oil tank but not what goes into actually engineWhat kind of oil do i put into my 1974 mt250 honda in the crankcase for the gears?
I have been using Amsoil 20/50 in both my crank and primary. It's expensive, but I was told it was well worth it. I tried something else last oil change and I got all sorts of top end noise that I never heard before, so I am going back to the Amsoil at the next change. I don't know what grade you need, but I'm sold on the product.
That's a cool and rare little Honda you have. They sure didn't make many 2 strokes. I bet there aren't too many survivors out there.

1994feb. reg. ford granada scorpio estate 2ltrtwincam, wont go in drive, works in all other gears oil level ok
has small oil leak at front of gearbox, oil level ok, oil usage vrtually nil. goes ok on manual selection, ok in position 3 with auto changes but overdrive must be selected n deselected manually when min speed reaches 45 to 48 mph then runs ok. was ok until using kickdown when it dropped down 2 gears at slow speed. never been right since, this was 28/12/2007, 2 days ago. any genuine answers appreciated.1994feb. reg. ford granada scorpio estate 2ltrtwincam, wont go in drive, works in all other gears oil level ok
Sounds as though the transmission linkage may be screwed up. Check the transmission fluid for little bits of metal shavings or a dark, burned smell. I suggest you have someone pull the inspection plate and check the transmission.1994feb. reg. ford granada scorpio estate 2ltrtwincam, wont go in drive, works in all other gears oil level ok
and it will cost you a fortune in petrol too. but very cool car. not seen one in years so get it on the road an it will be a head turner
Could just be a slack linkage. When were the gearbox oil filters last checked and cleaned? A lot of auto boxes (merc especially) use a mix of cables, electrics and hydraulic force from the oil inside to help change ratios.
A blocked or slightly obstructed filter can upset a box enough to start playing up.
The oil level in the automatic boxes is suposed to be checed running and in a gear! Make sure the brake is on well.

I've had that problem with some of my cars when I'm putting a thrashing on them. The ultimate solve would be to have a baffle under the outlet leading to the hose. Otherwise all you can do is reposition/lengthen the hose ,or add a small filter to the end to capture oil but let it breath.

Why resin gears are used in oil pumps of yamaha fazer and bajaj caliber bikes?
Polyamide (Nylon) 66 PA66Why resin gears are used in oil pumps of yamaha fazer and bajaj caliber bikes?
teflon coated nylon resin can outlast metal gears and do not produce the metal shavings that can harm engine components.

I have no idea why oil is leaking out of my GAS GAS' gear box breather pipe?
Ever since i opened the engine Oil has for some reason starting pushing its way out of the breather pipe on my GAS GAS. ive changed the gaskets and bearings inside and its STILL leaking. i have no idea what to do next....I have no idea why oil is leaking out of my GAS GAS' gear box breather pipe?
The most common cause is overfilling the engine with oil. More severe problems can be when engine compression is getting into the the gearbox and the pressure is pushing the oil out. That is usually from problems with the crank bearings or seals...I have no idea why oil is leaking out of my GAS GAS' gear box breather pipe?
That's why I take mine to my mechanic, cause working on engines is a tricky business. Gas Gas bikes, in general, have issues. I have seen 2 in my friends garage, both broken and only a few rides old.
Answer number one is correct, if it is over full then it will come out the vent tube. The only other alternative is that you have a crank seal that has either popped out, wasn't properly installed or has been compromised in some fashion such as it has a hole in it.
It sounds as the compression rings are weak and letting the motor to let the compreshem into the gear box pushing the oil out of the gear box.

Is mixing of a small amout of 2T oil with the 4 stroke motorcycle (gear box) will damage the engine?
My motorcycle has a 4 stroke engine. Its engine requires 1.1L of synthetic oil. The problems starts when I only get 1L of oil, so I still need to put 100mL to achieve the right amount. What I do is I get a bottle of 200mL 2T oil and mix the half of it with my engine oil because we can't find a smaller bottle of 4T oil in our place (and 2T small bottle is cheaper than buying another 1L of 4T oil). I usually encounter this problem when I change oil. The question is, will the 100mL of 2T oil damage my motorcycle? Thanks! Is mixing of a small amout of 2T oil with the 4 stroke motorcycle (gear box) will damage the engine?
Yes, because you're using the wrong type of oil. What's cheaper; another liter of the correct oil (which you can keep to top up the oil between changes and which you can keep to make up your 1.1L every time you change the oil) or a new engine? Is mixing of a small amout of 2T oil with the 4 stroke motorcycle (gear box) will damage the engine?
i would not take the chance.discount makeup

I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?
This car(98 Grand Prix) is used and purchased 3 days ago and was not doing this until after the change.I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?
Having the oil changed doesn't really affect the transmission. Since you just got the car, chances are the problem was always there. The problem with the car probably just comes and goes.
I had car where it would run great 1 week then run like crap the next week, then good again.
Wouldn't hurt checking the oil level though, which you should do after every oil change to make sure they didn't put in to much or nothing at all(it happens).I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?
if you have only had the car for 3 days you cannot say that the problem was not pre existing. i see absolutely no link between going to a synthetic and a ';jumping'; condition try this pop the4 hood and double check the oil level and the transmission level, then look around and see if you can locate any wires or vacuum lines that are disconnected (usually around the air filter. either of the transmissions that come in that car are tried and true, and very reliable. get back to me if this does not resolve the problem.
CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL
then bring the car back to the mechanics and ask them just to check it over for you. If they say they can't find anything they did wrong, take it to your mechanic, or a well qualified mechanic. Save all your reciepts. The important part is, let the company who did the oil change at least check it out (they will do it for free) and if they see something they messed up you have a good change they will bear the brunt of this. If not, you will have your reciepts showing you followed the right steps, JUST IN CASE you have to take this to court.
Dont worry though, there is probably a realllly simple and dumb thing that is causing your car to do that.
after that, if that';s not the case, it's
Adding synthetic for the first time I believe changed the attitude of your engine system which in turn would change the attitude of your tranny.
Changing the oil to synthetic will not do that you have another problem.
I don't trust synthetic oil. I would have stayed with the real thing.

I changed oil&filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?
i changed it because my tranny was acting weird i also forced pan out i had a hard time with it and my last gear dont kick in at 65 mph im at 3000 rpmI changed oil%26amp;filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?
because you had to force the pan back into position ill bet that you knocked a sensor or solenoid loose on the valve body. the unfortunate solution is to pull the pan back down and check them all.I changed oil%26amp;filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?
Check the wiring. You may have knocked a wire connector loose. I could be a loose wire inside the oil pan. If you accidental disconnected a shift solenoid it will cause this. They are in the side of the Valve body.
how does the oil and filter have anything to do with the gears?
