has small oil leak at front of gearbox, oil level ok, oil usage vrtually nil. goes ok on manual selection, ok in position 3 with auto changes but overdrive must be selected n deselected manually when min speed reaches 45 to 48 mph then runs ok. was ok until using kickdown when it dropped down 2 gears at slow speed. never been right since, this was 28/12/2007, 2 days ago. any genuine answers appreciated.1994feb. reg. ford granada scorpio estate 2ltrtwincam, wont go in drive, works in all other gears oil level ok
Sounds as though the transmission linkage may be screwed up. Check the transmission fluid for little bits of metal shavings or a dark, burned smell. I suggest you have someone pull the inspection plate and check the transmission.1994feb. reg. ford granada scorpio estate 2ltrtwincam, wont go in drive, works in all other gears oil level ok
and it will cost you a fortune in petrol too. but very cool car. not seen one in years so get it on the road an it will be a head turner
Could just be a slack linkage. When were the gearbox oil filters last checked and cleaned? A lot of auto boxes (merc especially) use a mix of cables, electrics and hydraulic force from the oil inside to help change ratios.

A blocked or slightly obstructed filter can upset a box enough to start playing up.
The oil level in the automatic boxes is suposed to be checed running and in a gear! Make sure the brake is on well.
