I have bump shift down between 4 and 3 gear. 2003 Chrysler town and country. I';ve change oil filter, and prob?
You Probably put the wrong fluid back in it. It takes Chrysler ATF+4 and only that. Also there are several updates for the TCM.(trans control module) Only the dealer can update it.
My 4hp Evinrude stays in gear and will not go into neutral after changing the gearbox lube oil. suggestions?
One of the screws that you mistakenly removed is the pivot pin for the gear shift fork. It fell out of position and when you put the screw back in.......well you get the idea. It it a little more complicated to put it back in position......You can buy a shop manual, but a good mechanic will find this funny and laugh as he puts it back and charges you to do it.My 4hp Evinrude stays in gear and will not go into neutral after changing the gearbox lube oil. suggestions?
couple things we need to know first.
1. Is this your first time to change gear lube? First time on this motor?
2. What year motor?
3. Was there any metal in the old oil?
4. Was there any water in the old oil?
5. Need a more specific description of the symptoms. What action are you taking, and what is the response. I mean, does the shift lever move from forward to neutral, but the motor is still in gear? Or is the shift lever frozen up to where you can't move it?
6. How did you determine that it's still in gear? Is it cause the prop spins when the motors running out of the water? or something else?My 4hp Evinrude stays in gear and will not go into neutral after changing the gearbox lube oil. suggestions?
Become more proficient with throttle, kill switch, and pulling starter rope. Remove any stop tabs that prevent rotating the motor 360 degree on transom.

Oil light comes on only when stopped and in gear?
the car also shaked and lost power and turned off todayOil light comes on only when stopped and in gear?
You have low oil pressure, that's not a good sign.Oil light comes on only when stopped and in gear?
As Robert M says the car is idling badly, as reinforced by the shaking and losing power and cutting out at a standstill. When the idle speed is too low, the oil pressure will also be too low, which is why the warning light is coming on. You need to address the idling problem, and when you get it running properly you will also have sorted out the warning light.
You mention it happens when you are stopped and in gear. It might be that the clutch is dragging, and pulling the idling speed down.
before you drive car check dipstick level add until it is between hash marks if it is down alot may have a leak oil and filter needs 2 b changed every 3k miles or 3 months which ever comes first.if oil is full idle is too low, needs tune up,or oil switch is bad.check levelASAP
Knowing what kind of car this is would help a lot. WHen your idle gets too low, the oil pressure drops a little bit and triggers the low oil light. In other words, you have a DIRTY IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. $3 can of gun-out will take care of this problem on most cars. Good luck!
Low oil or excessive oil or bad oil pump. Check your oil and correct the problem immediately. Do not run your engine at all with the oil light on rather it's cold or hot or just idling or whatever. It will blow up in a hurry.
Take it to Advanced Auto or Auto Zone they will test it for free just make sure the light is on when you have them come out and your car has to be 1996 or newer.
add some oil... thats why the oil light is on
check the oil
may even need a tune up
you need oil. better put some in right away..check your dipstick if you know how..

Does anyone know where in the engine the oil goes for the gear box?
for a rover 214 siDoes anyone know where in the engine the oil goes for the gear box?
Engine oil goes in the engine, not the gear box.Does anyone know where in the engine the oil goes for the gear box?
I'll assume that by Gearbox you mean the transmission. The trans-fluid (not engine oil) goes into the transmission directly. If its an automatic there tends to be a dipstick somewhere under the hood and you could either put it in there (slow) or look around for the cap. A manual transmission requires that you go underneath and there is a drain and fill plug on the trans itself, if you arent familiar with vehicles i wouldnt reccomend doing it yourself.
If infact you are referring to the diffirential (and your vehicle is rear-drive) there is a plug on the diffirential itself. On a FWD the Diffirential is integrated with the trans in what is known as a transaxle however they sometimes use different lubrications so i would reccomend referring to the service manual.discount makeup

Did you put the right fluid back in. It takes chrysler atf+4 and only that not dextron 4 or anything else. If that's whats in there, then there are several updates for the TCM(trans control module) Can only be done at the dealer and also tel them to Quick learn it.
What kind of oil should i use for my old camera's winding gears?
I just got a Kodak 35 at a garage sale the other day. i loaded some 35mm film into it, took the pictures, but them when winding the film back, the gears were so stiff, it tore the film...What kind of oil should i use for my old camera's winding gears?
First of all, try spraying the winding gears down thoroughly with QD electronics cleaner. This will help clean out all of the old grease that could be gumming things up. Repeat this several times.
If you still feel it necessary to lubricate it, spray some WD-40 into a jar and let it sit for several days. You will be left with an amber oil on top and a white waxy substance on the bottom. Skim the oil off the top, and then, using the tip of a screwdriver, apply it sparingly where you see fit. Don't go overboard-with cameras especially, a little bit of oil goes a long way, and too much will just make things worse.
UPDATE:
I've worked on a lot of cameras, and have never seen one lubricated with graphite. For nearly all parts of a camera that require lubrication are lubricated with some sort of light mineral, which is what I have suggested using.
A small drop of oil, properly applied, is the key. Don't go overboard and the oil will never get to places where it's not supposed to be.What kind of oil should i use for my old camera's winding gears?
same as used by your watchmaker. if this is a ';old'; camera you might use ';mavel mystery oil';. i've used it for years on instuments. another is gun oil (hoppys) any gun store
Cameras are lubricated with graphite, never with oil!
Oil, grease, or wax on your film will prevent the development chemicals from penetrating properly, ruining your negatives or slides.
Take it to a camera repair shop and have them lubricate it. They know how to do it properly.
WD-40 will work
Odds are the gears were not stiff but you didn't push the film rewind button in to disengage the gears. I have an old Kodak 35, they do get a bit difficult to use though.

Could any one tell me what grade oil to put in a borg warner velvet drive gear box model no 10.17 oo4?
Type F, Dexron and all other hydraulic fluids which meet the Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corporation specifications for type C3 oils are recommended for use in all Velvet drive marine gears.
Or in other words Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).

I just bought a 99 Subaru Forester and have 2 questions about 1st gear and very small oil leak.?
1st quest. - When I shift into first gear sometimes it grinds a small bit..should I be concerned? Other gears seem fairly smooth.1st and 2nd gear are a bit ';jerky';..I have always driven manuals - so it isn't my driving...2nd Quest. - Noticed a very small amount of oil under engine after driving 2 hours - stopped when car was off..Did not leak anymore overnight..Car does not emit smoke when first started or idles..should I be concerned..Do you feel like any products available will stop leak of oil? Car has 113,000 miles on it...Otherwise car runs great..Thanks for any advice...I just bought a 99 Subaru Forester and have 2 questions about 1st gear and very small oil leak.?
If it grinding to shift into first, you are trying to do it too soon RPM's too high.
probally need new gasket, valve cover maybe.I just bought a 99 Subaru Forester and have 2 questions about 1st gear and very small oil leak.?
have someone check out the clutch system. It should not be hard to shift or get jerky.
The engine may have a failed oil seal somewhere,,have someone check that as well.

Will low oil cause a manual tranny not to go in gear?
yes it will if it's really low. Will low oil cause a manual tranny not to go in gear?
Low oil level alone won't. The long term damage caused by low oil level can. Depending on the vehicle and shifter style it may have external linkage that needs to be adjusted. Will low oil cause a manual tranny not to go in gear?
if it,s low it will go in but it will scrape gears.
no, it'll cause massive chatter when the tranny is in gear and moving.
No... but a bad clutch will.

Are you lubing the food cutting surface ? Olive oil.
If you are lubing the actual motor/gear area of the unit [ the parts that DO NOT touch food ] maybe use a light grease such as general purpose lithium grease.

What kind of tranny oil do i use for a 1992 5.0 mustang manual not automatic is it gear or atf?
Mercon ATF, sometimes also labeled DexronIII/Mercon, as they are very similar and meet many of the same specifications, was specified for your car originally. However, you may have a hard time finding ATF marked in either of those ways, as Ford has quit licensing both of those applications. Same with General Motors and DexronIII. What I would recommend, if you can't find regular Mercon, is to drain and re-fill your trans with MerconV, and use that from now on. MerconV is a synthetic blend or a full synthetic, depending on who you believe.

If the fluid is to be drained, it is a good idea to warm the fluid first so it will flow better. This can be accomplished by 15-20 miles of highway driving. Fluid which is warmed to normal operating temperature will flow faster, drain more completely and remove more contaminants from the housing.
1. Drive the vehicle to assure the fluid is at normal operating temperature.
2. Raise and support the vehicle safely on jackstands. Remember that the vehicle must be supported level (usually at four points) so the proper amount of fluid can be added.
3. Place a drain pan under the transmission housing, below the drain plug. Remember that the fluid will likely flow with some force at first (arcing outward from the transmission), and will not just drip straight downward into the pan. Position the drain pan accordingly and move it more directly underneath the drain plug as the flow slows to a trickle.
4. Remove the drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain out.
The transmission drain plug is usually a square receiver which is designed to accept a3/8in. driver such as a ratchet or extension.
5. Once the transmission has drained sufficiently, install the the drain plug.
6. Remove the filler plug, and fill the transmission to the proper level with the required fluid. The fluid level should be even with the bottom of the filler hole.
7. Reinstall the filler plug once you are finished, but DO NOT overtighten it and damage the housing.
8. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the vehicle. What kind of tranny oil do i use for a 1992 5.0 mustang manual not automatic is it gear or atf?

I heard and dont want to sound like a dork ... but there are two oil resourvors.. But both take the same oil... Can anyone tell me how to change oil in both... for the gear box and the motor.?I have a 2004 harley sportster custom 1200. I see and have read how to change the oil.for both motor %26amp; gear bo
One is the oil tank and the other is the primary drive. Yes you can put the same oil in both, assuming you are using the harley synthetic. Automotive ATF also works good in the primary, but harley may void your warranty if you try it. I've used it for years and never had a problem.
Harley makes a specialized fluid for the primary, that is cheaper than the synthetic motor oil. Why pay more than you have to? If your primary has no leaks you dont have to worry about adding fluid anyways.
Anyways, to change your motoroil, look on the bottom towards the rear, on the primary side of the frame. The oil drain line is connected to the frame there. Put a mat and an oil pan under it and pull it off the frame and let the oil drain out. You will also have to change your oil filter, located on the front of the engine case. Beware, there is no way of changing it without making a mess. Use old rags and a drain pan or mat. The filter unscrews and comes right off. Before screwing on the new filter, rub a thin coating of oil on the rubber seal, and half fill the filter with oil. Yes some will spill out as you screw it back on, so keep your old rags handy.
The primary has a drain plug at the bottom. Put ur pan under the hole and remove the plug. Next remove the derby cover (the big round cover on the side of the primary). After the fluid is drained out, clean the metal shavings off the magnetic drain plug, and reinstall. If necessary put a thin layer of silicon around the drain plug to prevent leaking. Pour in the new primary fluid and put derby cover back on. Note: While you're in there you should check the adjustment of your primary chain. I recommend installing an M6 chain tensioner to avoid having to check the chain in the future, just put it in there and forget it. Your operators guide is helpful in minor stuff like this. I also suggest you get a repair manual. Minor maintenance isn't so difficult, and the shops charge an arm an a leg for this stuff, (and still get it wrong sometimes).I have a 2004 harley sportster custom 1200. Intrepid oil light at idle in gear comes on.?
I have a 03 intrepid, in gear with brake applied and stopped the idle will slowly drop to 600 rpm's and the oil light comes on. put it in nuetral and it goes out as soon as rpm's go around 750? WTF? Help, is it the oil pump?Intrepid oil light at idle in gear comes on.?
that may also be the oil pump pick up tube getting stopped up on it and causing that too happen, first see if you can get someone with a manual gage to try and see how much oil pressure its actually holding, then if that doesn't help, replace the sending unit on it,as a last resort you may have to pull the oil pan and clean it all out ,those was bad to stop up and cause that problem too happen,i got an 02 model to do this week for the same problem and we already determined its the oil pan full of sludge causing this too happen, try the sending unit first though its a lot cheaper and easier than removing the oil pan and cleaning it all out,and that could be the pressure relief valve in the oil pump going bad also, good luck.Intrepid oil light at idle in gear comes on.?
Most likely the oil pressure sending unit connector needs to modified. There is a technical service bulletin for this problem. Most Chrysler and Dodge dealers can fix it for $60-100 in less than an hour. I doubt it is your pump or pickup, unless you don't change the oil often or it is over 150,000 miles.
It is possible you have a bad oil pump, but you may want to check the oil strainer to make sure it is not partially clogged up. I worked on one with similar problems and it was a clogged oil strainer.
Spend a few bucks to get the pressure checked with a remote gauge at a repair shop. If the sender is just defective, it will be an easy fix. If the pressure really is low, you ain't gonna like the repair cost, I promise.
that may also be the oil pump pick up tube getting stopped up on it and causing that too happen, first see if you can get someone with a manual gage to try and see how much oil pressure its actually holding, then if that doesn't help, replace the sending unit on it,as a last resort you may have to pull the oil pan and clean it all out ,those was bad to stop up and cause that problem too happen,i got an 02 model to do this week for the same problem and we already determined its the oil pan full of sludge causing this too happen, try the sending unit first though its a lot cheaper and easier than removing the oil pan and cleaning it all out,and that could be the pressure relief valve in the oil pump going bad also, good luck.Intrepid oil light at idle in gear comes on.?
Most likely the oil pressure sending unit connector needs to modified. There is a technical service bulletin for this problem. Most Chrysler and Dodge dealers can fix it for $60-100 in less than an hour. I doubt it is your pump or pickup, unless you don't change the oil often or it is over 150,000 miles.

well you have a front wheele drive so there is no front or rear diff thats your trany the shaft is a trans axle on your passenger side the cv is on the driver side the box is the hub there is a few seals on it there is 1 where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather there is 1 where the trans axle bolts to the hub there is 1 on the outside (behind where tire bolts to the studs) thats about all i can think of try washing it with a good degreaser and refill it with 80/90W gear oil there should be a fill plug on the back of the hub above or below where the trans axle goes to it if its the gasket where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather youll have to unbolt the trans axle then un bolt the hub pices the you can clean it real good and use some rtv to reseal it with if its the outer hub seal the you take the tyire off and there will be a big nutt in the middle of the tire studs take it out and the seal will be right there it looks like a metal ring with a ring of rubber on the in side of it you pull it out you can use a seal remover that you can rent at autozone or use a big wreach just make sure you dont scar the inside meatle of the hub and all so make sure you use a seal installer tool that you can all so rent at autozone to make sure that the new seal goes in straght if its the in side hub seal then take the tire off un bolt the trans axle from the hub and there is a seal just like i had talked about for the outer seal and just fallow the same steps hope to have help you all so you can look up a lot of trouble shooting and repair guids on autozone .com there all free you just sign up if ya need any thing elese then let me know

What does the oil level light on toyota emina mean is it gear box or engine or stearing?
Hi
The oil light is NOT a level indicator, it is a PRESSURE indicator and it is indicating that the engine oil pressure is DANGEROUSLY low!!
This can be due to a low oil level, a worn oil pump, but it can also be due to a very worn engine, which can be due to running the vehicle for too long with a low oil level, so its all linked in one way or another, but primarily, the oil light indicates low oil pressure, not low oil level.
99% of the time, when this light comes on it is too late, but you may want to check your oil level, and if its overly low, top it up. You will however need to keep an eye on it because if you do look after your car then something must be happening to the oil, such as a leak for instance, or any of the above.
If you are not mechanically minded then take your car to someone who is and they can sort it out for you or you will wind up needing a new engine or a rebuild if it is financially viable.
Just as a matter of interest, if the oil light only comes on as you are cornering or as you brake or accelerate, then this will be due to a pressure drop due to a low oil level wherein the oil is surging away from the oil pump pick up and the pickup is pumping air instead of oil, straight into the big end bearing shells, and this in turn causes the big ends to crash land on the bearing shells and I'll leave the rest to your imagination, but its not good!!
Cheers

usually the engine- try not to drive it and get some oil pronto!
take it as a good time to check your other levels too dude. What does the oil level light on toyota emina mean is it gear box or engine or stearing?
Engine. If you keep driving with that oil light on, you'll be buying a new engine instead of a bottle of oil.
The mian oil light on the dashboard usually refers to the engine oil. Seek assistance immediately, don't continue to drive it. If there is a problem, you could ruin your engine.

How do i change my oil fluid in my renault scenic 2.0 lt automatic gear box?
There is a drain plug on the scenic auto box
drain oil and refill with 4.00 ltrs of recommended grade
if you email me via my profile with the year of your car I can check the correct grade for youHow do i change my oil fluid in my renault scenic 2.0 lt automatic gear box?
For the automatic transmission there is not a drain plug. You will have to suck the trans fluid out of the dipstick or take the pan and replace the gasket.
I would recommend taking it to a shop where they can suck out the trans fluid.

Is the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?
i recently serviced my bike and i read somewhere that the gear box required liquid too.however my service garage didnt not put any.is there a seperate place for this or is the same as the engine oil liquidIs the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?
Most non Jap bikes and many Jap bikes have tranny and engine oil separate. Some will even have a separate oil running in primary. I own 29 bikes at the present and the only ones that have motor oil and tranny oil integrated are all Hondas. Is the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?
On cars, the gear box and engine oil are often shared.
In cars they are ALMOST ALWAYS different. At least they are separated even when they are the same type of oil
In my 94 Civic, the gear box takes engine oil. But even so, they are completely separated. Changing the oil does NOT change the oil in the gearbox.

Usually gearbox oil is thicker.
Good luck...
it depends most jap bikes the engine %26amp; gearbox are one unit so its same oil , old brits used to have separate gear box, if you told people what bike you had they would be able to answer better instead of generalizing.
we have 60 bikes in our bike club including ducati, yamaha, honda, suzuki, kawasaki, new triumph's %26amp; harlie all runing one oil as engine gearbox is one unit, i have suzuki, yamaha %26amp; honda, ALL ROAD BIKE'S- NOT OFF ROAD BIKES,
Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
The majority of 4 stroke motorcycle engines, the engine and gear box share the same oil (liquid).
Honda makes dirt bikes that have separate areas for engine oil and gear box oil.
I have a Honda Shadow Aero and engine and transmission oil are the same . When you change the oil it goes to both. However some motorcycles have different oil for transmission and engine.
I think it's the same on a 4 stroke engine. Call the dealer, find out the weight of the oil for future knowledge.
some motors share engine and gearbox oil, others have separate tanks.
for example, my 1991 xr250r has just one oil tank, but in 1996 they changed to a dry sump design with separate tanks

Let me be more specific. what weight oil goes in a gear box of a 1989 Yamaha YZ 125cc?
i don't know off hand but thats why there is a manual and if you don't have one, call the dealerLet me be more specific. what weight oil goes in a gear box of a 1989 Yamaha YZ 125cc?
IIRC, the YZ125 doesn't have separate gearbox and crankcase oil. If that is, indeed, correct, you should be good with 10W40 or similar. If you're planning on running in really cold temps, try 5W20, or really hot, 15W40. It shouldn't really matter too much if you're changing oil as much as you should.
Refer to the OM for the oil change intervals, but I probably wouldn't want to go too much more than 2 rides, or 5-10 hours, before changing out the oil.Let me be more specific. what weight oil goes in a gear box of a 1989 Yamaha YZ 125cc?
What the book says. 10w30 will protect better now days than 50w twenty years ago, and flows through tight spaces much better. I've used Mobile1 for forty years and never lost an engine.
Typically, on a bike that small, it's 10w30 or 10w40.
20/50 in warm weather and 10/40 in cold weather.

ps running 80 in the rm 125What wt. oil in gear case?
10 40 works wellWhat wt. oil in gear case?
Are you in a warm climate, or running this as a track bike?? IF not, you should always stick to the oils that are recommended stock, for tyhis is what the designers had in mind, the 10-40. Fuel mileage and power, and sometimes ease of shifting, will suffer if you put a thicker viscocity oil in than whats supposed too be.
Although, If you want too add anything extra special, I would change it out for some synthetic oil, which is ALWAYS better.discount makeup

Either the crankcase is over filled, or the right crankshaft seal is leaking.

What oil is ok to use 2003 harley davidson gear box?
I can't believe I don't remember the name but we use a red trans oil... exclusively (I think the word 'red' is in the name)... extreemly good 'shock' absorbing fluid AND by being red in color, if there is ever a leak we know it's the trans by the color. 2001 Toyota Tacoma speed 4x4Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer and gear lube question ?
NO, NO, NO! Do not use that crap at all! First off, all engine/transmission oil additives are a scam, that's why a number of manufacturers were taken to court by the Federal Trade Commission (settled out of court by paying millions of dollars in fines). Secondly, Lucas in particular, affects the anti-foaming properties of whatever fluid it is added to, rendering those agents useless. The net result is equivalent to a washing machine with too much detergent added. Not a desirable condition from a lubrication/ fluid power point of view!

What is wrong with a hydrostatic tractor, when oil foam out of the gear box after it starts up?
Its a lawn and garden tractor (23 horsepower, bolens). Its 25 years old, and rebuilt about 5 years ago.the level is correctWhat is wrong with a hydrostatic tractor, when oil foam out of the gear box after it starts up?
1) over full of oil
2) fluid other than oil in the gear case

Yours: GrumpyWhat is wrong with a hydrostatic tractor, when oil foam out of the gear box after it starts up?
of the many things my first guess was the oil level but you say it is correct. what about the temperature of it? you could be boiling it. or possibly water in the oil. is it the correct oil?
Oil level is too high or there is blowby in the piston rings
Your Tractor is Bolen Garden tractor. Its specifications are
23 hp Engine
Hydrostatic
54'; Lawn Deck
48'; 2 Stage Snowblower
42'; Garden Tiller
There is no permanent maintenance for this tractor, coz its very old one whether it was refurnished some 5 years back, I can easily assume that you would have used proper oil and it is not over flowed and no water in it, coz these petty things you also can take care of.
it is certainly due to the temparature thing, when any automobile is very old, its capacity for cooling is reduced automatically, when it start up I can tell you sitting here, it would be starting after much time, coz instatly its engine is not warm, but soon as it is started, it began to heat up, and as it is heated up, temparature of your oil also increases, and viscocity is then reducing, coz we all know viscocity of engine oil is too high, which is usefull to make all parts run smoothly even on high temparature when parts n bearings moves, but as engine is hot instantly, its viscocity is lowered dow and this cause increase in volume of oil and which is not fitted into oil box and it oozes out along with foams created due to that temparature, you sahould get rid of it, I know some one who want to buy this sort of tractor, you can contact him and buy a new one.
I would check the oil filter, or lines if it has an external one.
when it foams you have alot of water in the oil, some how it got in, you will have to drain it and change filter. then fill it up again to see if that worked, dont run it untill you have done it

I would check the oil filter, or lines if it has an external one.
when it foams you have alot of water in the oil, some how it got in, you will have to drain it and change filter. then fill it up again to see if that worked, dont run it untill you have done it
Dose a lancer 2003 manual gear need any oil change for the gear system?
yesDose a lancer 2003 manual gear need any oil change for the gear system?
Yes. The oil in the gearbox is very heavy. It is gear oil and has a weight of 85W-140. It is NOT the same type of oil as is in the crankcase, which is much thinner (5W-30 up to 20W-50) and flows much more easily. You should change the transmission oil every 25,000 miles or about every year. It gets no carbon by-products in it as a result of burning gasoline, but it will eventually get small particles of iron in it as the gears wear against each other. If the seals are old and dried-out, you might also get water in your trans, and that's a bummer, too.

3)water in the oil.

I know its a girlie question but can someone tell me how to check my gear box oil on my vauxhall corsa.thanx.?
Go get yourself a haynes manual for your car. It'll tell you definitely how to check the transmission oil and walk you through a whole host of other car maintenance jobs and even some major repairs.
Start small, and build up your confidence. You might enjoy working on the car yourself, and you'll certainly save a fortune on garage bills as long as your careful to follow the instructions.I know its a girlie question but can someone tell me how to check my gear box oil on my vauxhall corsa.thanx.?
Hi,you will be best doing what I do go to a garage %26amp; let them do it.I know its a girlie question but can someone tell me how to check my gear box oil on my vauxhall corsa.thanx.?
Get an expert to do it for you.
There is a plug in it, remove the plug, on level ground, fill till it comes out of the hole
Small bolt on the side of it, you need a special key to get it out so you need to take it to a garage, wont cost much though and a 5 minute job.
undo the filler nut on the side of the gearbox, get some gear oil and squeeze some in until it overflows, not hard at all, no need to get ripped off by some mechanics!
ok if its manual htere is no dipstick , theres is 2 bolts on the front side of gearbox(allen bolts if i remember correct) undo the bootom one and usiing a special filler( halfruads) fill it untill the oil leaks out the hole and thats it (gear oil) if its an auto then their is a dipstick just take the measure from that
mr?
There are 2 dipsticks under the hood, one for engine oil, the other for your transmission. Transmission dipsticks are usually the one further back. If the car is manual, pull the dipstick out, wipe it off with a clean towel, reinsert it and check the level. It should be between the 2 lines. If the car is automatic, do the same thing, but while the car is on and has been running for several minutes.
Depending if you hgave an automatic there is a seperate oil dipstick under the bonnet usally a black topped one,
(the engine oil is a yellow one) making sure the car is at running tempreture switch off engine let stand for ten minutes then check, otherwise it is a bolt on the side of the gearbox situated about two thirds up (about 17mm) remove this and if no oil leakage then top up with gear box oil ( if you get one of those horrible bottles with a pull up spout i would buy a length of plastic tube that fits into the filler hole insert a funnel and use them as trying to do it with the bottle can be clumsey and very messy ) on topping up you do so untill starts to trickle out so a bit at a time is the best bet, if you need more than a litre bottle you need to question why.
You could always go to a spares shop and take a peek at a haynes manual then once you know put it back get the stuff you need, saves you about 拢19 buying a book that you might look at once in a while.
To fill a vauxhall gearbox you need to get underthe vehicle about halfway up there is a bolt which is a bung this needs to be taken out you then remove the breather from the top ( it looks like a black tophat) then you pour the correct grade of oil into the gearbox until it comes out of the bung hole then you replace the bung and replace the breather
I would buy a haynes manual and if you havent any mechanical experiance try and find a decent mechanic that does jobs in his spare time
It is a pretty awkward task as the gearbox oil is generally accessed from under the car. Don't attempt it unless you are fairly competent at this.

Way has my gear box oil?
covered with fine filings and the indentation full of the plug cove rd in a smooth silver paste and i get a grinding sound when i dip the clutch to change gear and when the clutch is risen help me some pleaseWay has my gear box oil?
oh oh, sounds terminal.
likely that a bearing has collapsed or something similarly nasty.
get it to a garage pronto, just incase something can be done before it all grinds itself to bits
if its just the clutch thrust bearing, you might get lucky, but the swarf in the oil will destory every other component in there quite quicklyWay has my gear box oil?
The filings are actually your gear teeth worn off, and plug is magnetic and attracts the smaller finely ground metal and as its mixed with transmission oil its a paste like substance.
It sounds like you have damaged the edges of the gears, so as they mesh they are catching on each other hence the grinding sound. Short of having a new/recon gearbox there is nothing you can do.
Is the noise when you dip the clutch or move the gear lever?
A small amount of metal in the oil and plug is perfectly acceptable, also make sure your clutch cable is adjusted correctly as it might just not be completely seperating the 2 plates.
All gearboxes produce swarf its not a problem most heavy commercial gearboxes have either magnetic pellet in drain plug or mag plates in box to pull this out of the drive train.Does the grinding happen just when you press the clutch or when you try to select a gear.If it happens when you just press the clutch and don't touch the gear lever then its the thrust bearing if its when you select a gear either syncro baulk rings worn, mainshaft bearings worn or the clutch is not fully breaking the drive train. If clutch is adjustable give it a bit more clearance if not sounds like a new clutch
The iron powder that you've found on the magnet is not a problem and is normal.
Most manufactures don't bother put a magnet on the filler plug as owner drivers panic when they see it covered in fillings, Fords install it in the bottom of the gearbox where it's only see when the gearbox is stripped down.
Regarding your noise when you dip you're clutch, does it make a noise if the engine isn't running? If not it sound as if your clutch release bearing is noisy and your clutch may be on it's last legs.
The grinding sound when you depress and release the pedal(ONLY if it does it w/o changing gears-which is how I took your explanation) is likely a bad throw-out bearing- will usually ';shake'; the pedal, also
If it's only happening when you change gears, it's internal trans.repair time ! A little ';paste'; is normal (all trannys will wear some, in order to ';break in';), but if you have slivers of metal, your tranny has internal damage/wear that needs to be addressed, soon !
If your clutch is not engaging then your clutch has gone. Either that or your bearings, pop it into a garage and let them tell you. Make sure you tell them not to do anything without askig you 1st though else you'll end up with a big bill!
Sometimes this is normal

Outboard Motor Gear Box oil change.?
Hi, I am old and not very strong. The two machine screws that have to be removed are too tight for me to budge. I have sprayed them with penetrating oil, and have bought the biggest screwdriver that I can get locally (250x12mm) but still no luck. Would it be easier to budge them if I run the engine to get them hot? Perhaps there are some tricks of the trade that you could share with me? Thanks for reading and please help if you have any answers.Outboard Motor Gear Box oil change.?
Make sure the leg of the outboard is well supported in a horizontal position, now assuming you are right handed, grasp the screwdriver in your left hand and fit it to the screw concerned.
While keeping a good tight hold on the screwdriver and applying an anti-clockwise twist at the same time, give the top of the screwdriver a tap with a reasonable sized hammer.
What you are doing is simulating an 'impact wrench' and will normally get those leg screws undone - they are not over tight but the oil seal can make them stick.Outboard Motor Gear Box oil change.?
I am only 13 but it might help.
First dont heat them coz metal expands when it get hot, and that willjust be eve harder.
secondly you want to get somegood leverage, like put a mole-grip on the handle of your screwdriver (put it on at 90 degress, like %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; 卢)
or like get a screwdriver with a hole in the hadle so you stick a rod through it.
antything to get more leverage.
thats how i take the spark plugg out of my moped and screw it back in tight.
If there's a vent hole into the gear box, I'd get the oil real hot and try to suck it out of the vent hole with a quality ';transfer pump';. Then refill with a quality synthetic gear box oil and the motor gears will last forever.
Put a small cresent wrench on the blade of the screwdriver and use it to get more leverage. Running the engine to get it hot won't help because it won't get that hot and if it's not in water you will ruin your engine.
try this trick ,it has worked for me in the past more than one occasion.
try to tighten the screw(s) first than try to loosen them
running the motor might help after it has cooled back down but try to work the screws while it's coolingdiscount makeup

There has to be a leak in a line, the gaskets, or the case. Because of the nature of automatic transmissions, there is not fluid reservoir that can be monitored for level that way that engine can. You need to get the car to a shop and have it diagnsoed.

Gear/transmission oil?
sae10w30se is the recommended gear oil but I can鈥檛 find the stupid stuff any where is there anything else I can put in that will increase the performance or work just as well (its a tzr 50 2003 2 stroke)Gear/transmission oil?
Use Type ';F'; ATF,,,aka Ford-type automatic transmission fluid.
Or,,if you can find it %26amp; wanna spend the money...
BelRay Gear Saver 75w .
is hard to beat.
Hard to beleive here in the 21st century,,,
people are still being told to pour Engine Oil into Transmissions.
If you prefer to continue using Engine oil,,,
keep in mind that oil has changed a bit since 1950's when the Japs started using it because thats all they had.
Lots of oils are bad news for modern clutch friction compounds.
Careful which one you use.
ATF is ';Extreme Duty Clutch Oil';,,,always has been.
Thats what its designed for,
So,,,any ATF is Clutch-SafeGear/transmission oil?
yamahas own 10/40 will do...by the way the tzr50 doesnt have ''gearbox oil'' as such...its engine oil....as for the performance NO motor oil will make it go faster...remove restrictions from the exsaust pipe, carb and ecu....then it will ''fly''...well as much as a 50cc bike can that is...
This will be fine for your bike;

1977 yamaha DT250 GEAR BOX OIL?
IS THERE A SEPERATE SPOT TO PUT GEAR BOX OIL OR IS THAT RUN ON YA NORMAL MOTOR OIL....1977 yamaha DT250 GEAR BOX OIL?
Gear box oil should be a high grade motor oil with good shear protection. Kendal GT 10w-40 is a good choice. Don't mistake the gear box oil with the oil injection oil for the 2-stroke engine. That goes into a separate place and is a different oil.1977 yamaha DT250 GEAR BOX OIL?
The plug for the gearbox oil is on the..........gearbox! There might be a dipstick integral with the filler cap, but don't worry if there isn't - because the gearbox oil doesn't do the motor as well, as it does on 4-strokes, it never gets very dirty and there is often something seriously wrong if the level changes very much over time. Don't forget to keep checking the motor oil level regularly - that's the one that goes down steadily on a 2-stroke. If you run out, it's death to your motor.

IF the shaft seals are in good shape use 90w or 85-140w gear oil . if the seals are leaking pack the case with bearing grease.

Gear box oil what can i use????help!!!?
can engine oil be used in a gear box?what would happen if it were done?Gear box oil what can i use????help!!!?
Gear box as in differential, or transmission? Either one, no.
Transmissions use something like 80-90W, or auto tranny fluid like my Beemer did.
Diffs usually take 90W hypoid.
BUT, this varies. You need to find out what is supposed to be in there. Since you didn't mention what year and car you have, I don't know.Gear box oil what can i use????help!!!?
some honda transmissions run on engine oil, but as others mentioned, wthout knowing what car or transmission style it is, theres no easy way to answer. most manual boxes use hypoid. if you're after automatic tranmission oil, go to any petrol station and on the oil shelf there will be ATF (automatic transmission fluid) some types also state that they can be used in power steering systems too.
I cannot say year make model and miles please? Manual or auto trans? Like asking a doctor to be blind folded and wearing mittens and ear plugs. to diagnosis your condition Some trnasmissions can live on motor oil some will fail almost right away.
hard to say. no, you can't use engine oil, but there are a number of fluids that go into gear boxes depeding on the manufacturer and model.
gl4, gl5, gl5s, gearlube, ATF
i do not think moter oil will damage your transmission, how ever you should drain it and replace with proper oil.
no engine oil! it either uses transmission oil or 90 weight gear oil.

under neath car in centre, car must be level up on ramps ,,kwik-fit do it for small charge. Can any one tell me where i put oil in gear box for skoda felicia?
First, remove the threaded plug where you check the level of oil in the gear box. The car should be on a level surface or vehicle lift. Then stick your finger in the hole and see if the oil comes up to the level of the hole. If not, squirt some oil into the hole from the plastic squeeze bottle that the new oil comes in when you buy it.
Consult your vehicle handbook, that`s where you will find the answer and diagrams showing the way.
The best place usually if you cant see a filler hole is to remove the speedometer shaft and fill it to the required level via the stud. But a garage wouldnt charge you a fortune to do it properly and less messy for you.
in the handbook or ask a skoda dealer they should tell you or info on the web
The first thing you need for this task is a Haynes manual for the vehicle, the vehicle handbook wont cover topping up the gearbox oil as it might require a special tool to remove the plug, next you need to make sure you have the right grade of oil as manufacturers have changed the types of oils used in transmissions as technology developes. make sure the vehicle is on level ground and remove the plug, get a split pin and bend one leg at 90 degrees, then bend that at 90 degrees again about 1'; from the end, this makes a little dipstick that you can stick in to the gearbox and check the level of the oil in the box. If the oil touches the stick your fine as you dont want to overfill the transmission as this will cause excessive pressure and blow seals. If it needs topping up simply add a bit of oil and then check with your dipstick until the oil touches the bottom of the dipstick

if its got air in the lines it will cause it to force fluid out through the seals, try bleeding the air off the system and see if the leak stops they usually will ,unless you had a leak in the gear box to start with it should stop leaking once all the air is bleed from it,i have had this happen a lot good luckReplaced pwr steering pump in 01 dodge 2500 now its leaking oil from back of gear box any ideas?

Oil is coming out of gear case vent what could be the problem?
If you're not willing to give any sort of details, you should expect answers that make no sense.
Good luck.Oil is coming out of gear case vent what could be the problem?
It's over filled. If it's an automatic the fluid level is checked with the engine running and in park. We really need more detail.
If you are talking about a transfer case in a 4WD then the seal between the gearbox and transfer case is blown and the gearbox oil is leaking into the transfer case and overfilling it.Oil is coming out of gear case vent what could be the problem?
you are not giving me much to work with, if it is over full it can start to leak out of any hole that is below the level. or if the box gets over heated, any of the oil that has vaporized will leave through that same hole again.
i,ll take a guess because your not telling me very much. it could be overfilled.discount makeup

How do i change gear box oil on a 2000 2.7 manual terrano?
The drain plug is on the bottom of the gearbox, the filler %26amp; level plug is on the nearside of the box.
Drive the vehicle to warm up the oil, then drain %26amp; allow to completely empty. Replace drain plug %26amp; refill with 3.5 litres of API GL-4 oil.
Let me know if you need further info.

It probably has no drain plug so it will have to be pumped out through the fill hole and then reflled through the same hole till it overflows a little.
So much easier to get a garage to do it.
Are you sure it has to be done - most gearboxes do not need oil changes.
I believe some gearboxes can be damaged by changing the oil.
I'd look seriously into the matter before deciding to change it.
jack it up slide under look for drain plug most do have one on bottom and fills thru plug on side of ive myself have never replace mine just added to it and most of my cars or trucks like my car now has over 300,000 woul dbe easy and just has cheap to pay to have it done
An impeccable answer from JG.
But I would just add that BEFORE draining anything, make sure you can get the filler nut off!

I can't figure why my 96 Lumina runs, very rough, but stops when I put it in gear, & my oil light stays on.
I have a 96 Lumina, which just started making a terrible noise as I was driving. When I pulled over I thought I had blown my engine, but a good samaritan, trying to help suggested that my engine had not blown and that my coil packs, or module had gone bad. After replacing them, it runs, but very badly and when I put it in gear it stops abruptly and my oil light stays on. I am no mechanic but I believe it might be the oil pump or the timing chain. Could it be one of them or what else could it be?
Thank you.I can't figure why my 96 Lumina runs, very rough, but stops when I put it in gear, %26amp; my oil light stays on.
If you ran it with the oil pressure light on, you've toasted it. Rings are seized and valves are sticking. That good Samaritan cost you a lot of money for coil packs by pretending to know more than he did. Don't spend another dime before you do a compression check, and don't ever drive a vehicle with no oil pressure.I can't figure why my 96 Lumina runs, very rough, but stops when I put it in gear, %26amp; my oil light stays on.

Timing gear sprocket broke oil shot out out of engine somewhere what couldve caused this?
it is a 2001 toyota tundra v6 engine showed no signs of oil leaking driving down road engine started stuttering really bad
all the oil shot out dont know where it came from really baffled
what couldve cause thisTiming gear sprocket broke oil shot out out of engine somewhere what couldve caused this?
look for a hole in the engine block side if there is none ,then You are lucky guy.
if you see a piece of metal hang in there, is what they called connecting rod.( or what it last from it)Timing gear sprocket broke oil shot out out of engine somewhere what couldve caused this?
either the timing gear sprocket broke the valve or timing cover or cam/crank seal, or if its variable valve timing, it came from the sprocket itself as the variable timing is oil driven inside the sprocket.

hello jimmy my name is Shaun I'm a mechanic, if it is your gear box then am afraid the damage is done, but if your lucky it might just be a drive shaft that's away! dose the engine rev when you put it in gear? and what way did the car break down did it just lose speed and start reving or did the wheels lock up?

If it is a fluid problem and is low on fluid I am afraid you are up the creek. Once you run an automatic out of fluid the clutch bands inside the tranny will burn up in just a few minutes. If for some reason it is something else you are in luck. To check and see if you burnt the clutches up remove the rubber plug and smell the scent of the oil just sniff it. If the clutches are burnt up you will smell the scent kind of like brake pads that got too hot. If you smell that it's toast. Good Luck I hope it's something else other than the fluid.

Manual gear box oil level?
How do I change the gearbox oil to my 2wd 4cyl 1991 Toyota Pickup? Can I simply add oil to make it full, or do I have to change it?
How do I go about finding where to put the oil in?Manual gear box oil level?
hi, there is a plug/bolt underneath the gearbox somewhere in the middle. this is your drain plug. to add gear oil, there is a bolt same area only on the side of the gearbox. this is where you add the oil. its full when oil starts to drip out from it.Manual gear box oil level?
Climb under the truck you will see a drain plug on the side of the trans. When you remove it do it slowly if it starts to come out its full, No need to change it just keep it full with 90 weight gear oil good luck
the trans has a drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug on the side u need a allen wrench to get them out and you can just fill it up.when it starts to run out of fill hole its full make sure u use the right gear oil for your trans.
just make sure its full and you dont need to change it
always take the fill plug off first. this will allow the fluid to drain faster, plus if you drain fluid and cant get the fill plug open then you have no way to add. the total capacity isnt that large so you can definately change it out for not much money. also consider using a higher quality fluid like Amsoil.

How to add oil to a 4 speed granny gear?
ok i got my 4 speed granny gear and there is not a dipstick for the transmission so how would i check to see if i have tranny oil in it or not also how do you add the tranny oil because its a little hard to change gears it aint smooth you have to put some force to it thanksHow to add oil to a 4 speed granny gear?
somewhere on the side of the tranny you will find a threaded plug- fill it to the bottom of the threads- wouldnt hurt to drain it %26amp; fill it. put a length of hose on the nipple of the gear oil bottle to make filling easierHow to add oil to a 4 speed granny gear?
If its rear wheel drive sometimes its just easiest to remove the shifter and add oil thru the opening.
should b a plug on side of tranny...open it and fill till its leakin out...u may need 2 use a suction/pump.to get it in there...
you need to bring the car to the dealership b/c yo uhave to added the fluid from the bottom of the the car there is an access screw just like your oil pan screw and you have to have the right equipment inorder to add the fluid inot the pan, but it sounds like to me your trans is fixing to go out.
There will be a 3/8 or 1/2 in plug on the side of the tranny. Remove the plug and the fluid should be right at the bottom of the hole. If it is low fill it with the right oil. Make sure you put in what the dealer calls for. and never mix regular with synthetic oil. Good Luck.
There are two plugs on the tranny One on the side and one on the bottom Remove the one on the side if oil seeps out it doesn't need oil...If it doesn't seep then stick your little finger in the hole if you can touch the oil again you don't need to add oil.
The stiff shifting could be a sign of the clutch not releasing completely.. or the synchronizes starting to wear down,, if this is the case the tranny will have to be rebuilt
Good Luck

the haynes manual says to use gear oil..allot of pple say to use mercron atf. also when i take off in 1st. 2nd and sometimes 3rd. the truck feels like its going over real bad speed bumbs, like the ones on the side of the interstate. like a real bad vibration.. only sometimes...to make it stop i can disengage the clutch and continue in that gear and the chattering/jarrinng/shaking usually stops. i have 33 inch swampers on it and they have all been balanced by a shop and installed..there's also a metal sqeeky sound coming from under the truck.. what could be the cause of itI have a 93 f 150 4x4.. 5 spd manual.what type of trans fluid do i use..gear oil or atf?

If my Yamaha V-star 1100 manual calls for SAE80 GL-4 for the final drive gear oil, can I use 75w-90 GL-5?
I can't seem to find any straight 80w GL-4. And I figure I'll have better year round cold weather and hot weather coverage with the 75w-90. It's been down as low as 28 degrees in the winter and as high as the 100s. Plus both our Yamahas do a lot of commuting. 200 miles a week with one and as much as 500 miles a week with the other and all at freeway speeds. If my Yamaha V-star 1100 manual calls for SAE80 GL-4 for the final drive gear oil, can I use 75w-90 GL-5?
It's better to go up (GL-4 GL-5) than to go down.
GL-5 is rated for hypoid systems.
Hypoid gears make a 90 degree turn of the power flow.
That's what your bike requires - hypoid gear oil, so it will be fine.If my Yamaha V-star 1100 manual calls for SAE80 GL-4 for the final drive gear oil, can I use 75w-90 GL-5?
I use 75w90 full synthetic Valvoline gear lube in my 2001 Honda Goldwing's final drive. Being synthetic I figure I have about the best protection there is. I am aware of Goldwing riders that change the final drive during each engine oil and filter change. On my bike, it takes about five minutes to change the final drive oil.

Is it possible to have noise coming from a differential one month after adding gear oil?
Here is the scoop...I had my 2001 Mustang Gt in for an oil change. At this time there was no problem with my diff. When the mechanic is under the car he notices that I have a rear pinion seal leak. So I ask him to fix it and on the bill it says added gear oil. About three weeks I start getting a really loud noise coming form the differential. So I bring it back in and the mechanic says all the damage was done prior to the pinion seal change and that it just took a little longer for the gears to wear out. My question is....Is this even possible to have no noise then have service done to it then all of a sudden have noise back there. It seems weird that oil was added and then the noise appears. It would seem to me that they made a mistake and didn't add any gear oil after the seal was changed and that was most likely the cause. Any help would be great as I now need a new differential and they are not cheap. Is it possible to have noise coming from a differential one month after adding gear oil?
Yes it is possible, was the noise on acceleration or on deceleration, if it was on deceleration then your pinion bearing is gone, if it was on acceleration, (or all the time) than your gears are worn out and this was probably caused by previous issues. Some diffs have a crush sleeve in them that might need to be replaced when a pinion bearing is done or the preload on the bearing can be off casuing a loud howl on deceleration. Is it possible to have noise coming from a differential one month after adding gear oil?
Yes, it's possible, in fact likely that the damage was done prior to them doing the service. They took off the back of the differential, drained the fluid and replaced the seal and then put more oil in. Unfortunately, the damage was already done. Draining the old fluid removed a lot of ';sludge'; (basically metal shavings from the gears) and then the new gear lube compounded the problem because it has a detergent in it that makes sure the gears stay good and clean. Good in a good differential, not so good in one that's severely worn. Simply put, the sludge was what was keeping the thing working and they cleaned it out. The only real question is how long would it have taken to fail had you not touched it? Certainly it would have lasted longer but how much longer? A week? A month? Maybe even a year or two? Hard to say. But the flip side is also true, what if it wasn't too late to replace that seal? If they caught it just in time they may have saved you this expensive repair . . . unfortunately, there's no way to know ahead of time.
You're just stuck with the same advice my dad always used to give me when I complained about break downs and repairs ';Cars are expensive, aren't they?';
they probably never touched it and charged you for it. you have to watch those people.if they filled it then it should have been ok.

Is it hard to change the rear end input seal which is leaking gear oil? and about how much for the parts? ?
my 95 toyota 4runner has a rear end leak coming from a seal where the drive shaft meets the rear end. my 4 runner is 2WD. is this a hard job for one person and will i need special heavy duty tools, or will i run into some problems during the R%26amp;R? the seal didnt leak until i took the truck to the mountains and i guess the extra torque wore out the seal and now it leaks. its not a serious leak, but it stains the concrete driveway. by the way, any tips for getting oil stains out of concrete? any help is appreciated. sukiIs it hard to change the rear end input seal which is leaking gear oil? and about how much for the parts? ?
That Rear Seal isn't hard to change, but you will need a 3/4 inch impact and there's that Crush sleeve that will requires the use of a 300 ft.lbs. Torque wrench.
Don't forget to mark your Drive shaft to reduce the chance of throwing off the Drive shaft Balance.
Parts should around $38.

I want to change the engine oil and gear box oil to Harley Davidson softail 1340cc 1999?
i would like to know the amounts of oil to be used to service the engine and gearbox to harley davidson softail 1340cc 1999
also how do i measure the level of the oil hot or cold and to what level any other advice is most welcomeI want to change the engine oil and gear box oil to Harley Davidson softail 1340cc 1999?
Rider is correct. You should buy a service manual. Your Softail holds 3 quarts of oil, the transmission holds 20- 24oz and the primary holds 1 quart. To check the engine oil, warm up engine ( a 5 minute ride will do), hold bike upright and level, push in dipstick all of the way then pull it out and check level. Trans can be cold, have a friend hold bike upright, set dipstick on the threads, remove to check. Between marks on both sticks is good. Hope this helps.I want to change the engine oil and gear box oil to Harley Davidson softail 1340cc 1999?

Hey Scarface, the best thing you can buy is a manual to support your service needs!
The info provided in the manual will not only help you but it will give you a better understanding of you bike and will save you a lot on service costs if you have a methodical approach to mechanics and a few tools lying around.
Oil wise, warm your engine up so the the oil will drain from your engine faster and more efficiently.
It's more advisable than doing it cold!
It doesn't have to be red hot though!
If you have your manual it should tell you how much oil you require with a new filter! Always advisable! A filter that is!
Have fun and save some money,
Troy.
I've got a Massey Ferguson tractor owner's manual you could have. I'm sure they're pretty similar?

I accedently drained my tranny oil instead or regular oil. will it run agian?? will it go back in gear?
I accidently drained the tranny fluid instead of the engine oil and it when i put it in gear then turned off car. How can i put the tranny oil back in my car and wiill it go back into gear????I accedently drained my tranny oil instead or regular oil. will it run agian?? will it go back in gear?
Put it back in through the tranny fill tube, where the tranny dipstick goes.
Next time, pay attention!I accedently drained my tranny oil instead or regular oil. will it run agian?? will it go back in gear?
fill it though the filler tube about 4-5 quarts

Where can I find synthetic 2 stroke gear oil?
I have a good condition 1973 Kawasaki F7 175cc enduro with an air cooled oil injected 2-stroke engine. I am planning on using red-line synthetic 2-stroke oil in the oil tank when most of the conventional oil is gone from the oil tank. But what kind of oil would I use for the gear box or I think its referred to as gear oil. What do I look for when it comes to finding the right synthetic 2-stroke gear oil and what brand? How long should I wait to add the synthetic oil in the oil tank? I want whats best for my oil injected 2-stroke kawasaki enduro. I would greatly appreciate your honest advice.Where can I find synthetic 2 stroke gear oil?
Back in the day we would use ATF, or gear oil in the gearboxes of our two-strokes.
Nowadays, manufacturers recommend the use of 10w30 motor oil in the gearboxes of current 2-strokes and that's what I use. If you feel some marketing guys know more than the people who designed the bikes, then you can get a dedicated gear oil at most bike shops, auto parts stores, Wal-Mart etc...
A synthetic is not a huge advantage in this application. The gearbox does not get particularly hot and when it's cold there's no issue with ';pumpability'; since there's no oil pump... all lubrication is done by the gears splashing the oil around.
Synthetic 2-stroke oil for the engine, though, is a great idea. Highly recommended.
EDIT - That thing about synthetic 2-stroke gumming up your carb is a myth. Modern synthetic 2-stroke oil mixes quite readily with the mineral stuff. Your carb is in no danger and your engine will love you. What will gum up your carb is old unleaded gas, but as long as you ride regularly this should never be a problem.Where can I find synthetic 2 stroke gear oil?
I have heard of trouble with synthetic in the gear box due to the clutch is made for regular oil and if you use synthetic it is too slippery for the clutch and you won't go any where . So ask advice at a kawasaki dealer unless you want to spend more time fixing than riding.
As far as synthetic in the oil injection tank ? If they make it for that ,, use it.
synthetic is fine for your gas oil mix but you want to use the recommended oil in the gear box.....synthetic can make your clutch slip and it is a pain then....have to drain all the oil remove clutch plates and coat with new oil before installing so I would say dont use it in gear box......I have a 74 g5100 kawasaki and I use penzoil 10w30 and it works great....hope this helped
i would suggest using the manf. blend
due to the fact ur oil has special properties included due to the clutches etc ...
i always used yamaha lube in my 4 wheeler
the only other type i would use is penzoils formula
ive trusted penzoil products for years in my trucks and never had a problem
for the gear oil, get the same weight that is recommended in the manual. You can get Synthetic Gear oil at most specialty auto parts places, or Walmart.
Redline brand is fine, so is royal purple, Castrol, AMSoil
Search the internet for the manufacturer's literature
jeeeezzz..
2 stroke oil is for the engine. in 1973 they just used SAE 30 weight oil when they owned a two stroke. If you want to spend the extra money for synthetic, go ahead, but stick to only one brand as mixing oils sometimes gums up the carb. Wait until the tank is good and empty.
When you switch to a synthetic oil you should drain your oil tank if you have a injector bike - run your bike low on fuel if you are pre-mix - then start using the new oil. Be light on the throttle for the first tank so you can build up a film, but remember to stay with the same brand after you make the switch.
GEAR oil is a different story. Just buy a good brand. If your clutch is involved in that oil, you should read this article on why some oil is too slippery.

My front axle is leaking the gear oil?
i took my truck mudding %26amp; on my way home i noticed a smell so i checked %26amp; opened the hood %26amp; seen the breather line that comes from the front axle letting oil out it was brown oil i first thought it was mud water. Then i looked at the axle %26amp; saw that it was leaking out of the driver side. Its the stock axle (GM 10 bolt) is it just a seal/gasket or a bearing. I noticed it was vibrating for a little bit before i noticed the smell but i thought it was the spare i threw on. It doesn't vibe anymore %26amp; i still have that spare on. I took the plug out of the front diff cover %26amp; checked the oil level %26amp; it's almost completely empty. My front axle is leaking the gear oil?

What is the difference between ';synchromesh'; gear oil and normal 75-90?
I have a 2000 4.0 jeep wrangler and about 3 months ago I put a synthetic 75-90 gear oil in the tranny. I recently found out it was supposed to be a ';synchromesh'; oil. I went to all the local auto stores and none of them carry the oil. In one of the stores a mechanic was in there and he told me all synchromesh is, is a thin motor oil. He said I could use a 0w-40 mobil 1 synthetic oil and it would be just fine. Is this okay to do?What is the difference between ';synchromesh'; gear oil and normal 75-90?
sychromesh is for manual transmission
normal oil is for auto boxes
take your pick!
dont use motor oil in a gearbox, it doesnt have the right mix, such as extreme pressure addititivesWhat is the difference between ';synchromesh'; gear oil and normal 75-90?
There is not such thing as synchromesh oil. Manual transmissions use the oil for which they were designed. It ranges from ATF to ';fish oil'; to light gear oil. 75-90 would be a rear-end dope and probably too heavy for your trans although if it seems to shift well then it may be the right stuff. Generally thinner oils help the shifting and thicker oils hinder the shifting. Get the parts store to look up the correct dope and put that in it. They have a book that tells them. Otherwise, call a dealer or just take it to one and have them change it.discount makeup

Often Hard to get car in gear. .plus recent gear oil leak .... TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ? read more details.?
(170,000 miles on this car.)
RIGHT axle going into manual transmission is a bit loose and gear oil is leaking out.
Last few weeks I have some moments where it is a bit difficult to get car in gear.
I also notice slight grinding sound when i idle in neutral. When I press all the way down on the clutch the sound goes away.
I am thinking it may be time for clutch and maybe the bearing is bad in the transmission. I was hoping it was just a seal with the axle but with the sounds and with the axle that goes into the transmission being loose... It might be more.
What do you think? Transmissions are expensive. Would you recommend i buy a used transmission or should i buy a brand new one, or should i have my current one rebuilt?
How much difference in costs are we looking at for each option?Often Hard to get car in gear. .plus recent gear oil leak .... TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ? read more details.?
After reading your question, it appears that you have a better idea of the problems and soloutions than some of the answers you've received. Lets start with the axle seal leak. You stated that the axle is loose and the seal is leaking. This is typical when the differential bearing (s) wear out. When the taper bearing wear out, the preload is lost and this will cause the diff/axle to push down on the seal and leak. So putting in a new axle and seal will only mean that you have a new axle but still have the leak. As for the noise you decribe, it sounds like you already know it has a bad bearing in the trans, possibly due to lack of oil from the leak. With your description, it will most likely be the input shaft bearing, which will stop turning once you depress the clutch, ie....noise goes away. If it's hard to go into gear, it could be the clutch or bad clutch hydraulics if equipped as such. As for what direction to take for repairs, I doubt that you can buy a BRAND NEW transmission and if so, the price will be very expensive. The best route, if your pocketbook allows, is to have your transmission repaired by a trusted/qualified transmission specialist. You may think this will be more expensive than taking it to a general repair shop, but often they will just send the car/tranny to a transmission shop anyway. If your tight on funds you can try finding a used one, but remember, it's used !!!! It could end up being in worse shape that what you have now........It's a roll of the diceOften Hard to get car in gear. .plus recent gear oil leak .... TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ? read more details.?
Replace the CV axle (whole shaft) and seal Takes about an Hour to do buy a Haynes Manuel and take a day to get to know your best friend (Your Car).
the Low gear oil would be a problem for gears to mesh correctly I fix axle first fill tranny then go from there
Throw out bearing will make a grinding noise when it is going bad. The noise will usually go away when you press the clutch in. A new clutch kit will solve this problem.

How do I change the gear oil on a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I'd like to sell a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited but my ex-roommate mechanic didn't put gear oil back in the casing on the front axle (front differential?). I see what looks like a square hole which I assume is the plug. How might I go about adding more gear oil on my own?
I have a very limited understanding of auto mechanics and would appreciate any help. How do I change the gear oil on a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
It is the front differential. Remove that drain plug, buy about 2 quarts if 75w-90 gear oil and ask the parts store for a tube to attach the the bottle to fill the differential. It is full when you see fluid start coming back out. Good Luck! How do I change the gear oil on a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Open that hole and drain any fluid if there is any left, then go out and buy a couple of bottles and fill it, once the fluid starts coming back out of that hole, stop and put the Cap back on... thats it, i have done this to many cars before, very easy.

that would have nothing to do with the oil change, have the tranny looked at and it might need the fluid and filter in it changed. After the last oil change 1 to 2 auto gear change takes a long time can any one explain the reason ?
If you are talking about the transmission fluid being changed, then I would guess it was replaced with the wrong type.
Automatic transmissions are very sensitive to fluid type, each manufacturer has a specific fluid for their vehicles.
The wrong type of fluid can change the co-efficient of friction between the bands and clutches and change the way your transmission shifts.
It's also possible that when the transmission pan was dropped, something fell out and was not replaced, some transmissions had a small control valve and spring that was held in by the filter. I'm not familiar with Mitsubishi, but some of the older ford transmissions were like that.
If you did the job yourself, check the owner's manual, and make sure you used the proper fluid, or that the shop did if you took it to one.
engine or gearbox[dextron] oil change?...engine oil change will have nothing to do with the box changing gear slower/longer...normally when auto boxes get low on oil the take longer to change and longer to select a gear once its put into drive....also check the ''kick down''...some are cable, some are electronic, they may need adjusting.
unsure of your question as in oil change.
did you mean engine type oil change or transmission type oil change.
engine oil change shouldn't affect the transmission at all.
transmission oil change would if you used the wrong transmission fluid.
also when the trans' is usually serviced the internal filter is replaced and the bands should be checked for the correct tension on the adjuster nut.
if you did the service yourself, you had better recheck the fluid you used and filter.
if you had it done by a mechanic then return it for a check.
good luck
do you have the correct speed? if so did you speak to your service point? better to do so.
check oil quality and correct viscosity has been used , have you been in a hotter than normal climate Spain or someplace . Read up on the automatic gear change gear box and oil mechanical set up and recommended lubricants . like yesterday .
Did you use the correct type of oil? It maybe the cause as its the only thing that has changed
Incorrect grade or quantity of gearbox oil added, or filter not changed.
that would have nothing to do with the oil change, have the tranny looked at and it might need the fluid and filter in it changed.

What happens when youdrive with no gear oil?
Had my clutch changed, buti just figured out they putnot a drop of gear oil back in. Drove nice and easy for 700miles but they day I go to put her on the freeway and see if the clutch would hold I got a problem. None of the gears on the lower have of my shifter stick unless in driving like I'm breaking the clutch in except now I have to kind of mess with it a couple of time to get it in those gears.
Soo what problems come from driving with no gear oil? And is it too late to just have it put in now and see if the problems go away, or would they even be corrected this late just by adding the fluid? What happens when youdrive with no gear oil?
You had to have a leak. You wouldn't have driven 700 miles with no lubricant . The bearings would be in the bottom of your Tranny ! If you continue to drive it , you're gonna make a bad situation worse !discount makeup

Had front axle and seal replaced, but I still have gear oil leak. What else could cause gear oil leak?
I had a gear oil leak and a loud grinding noise when I let up on clutch. I was told that I need a throw out bearing so I had the entire clutch replaced. At the same time I also had my front axles and seals replaced. Now I still have the leak and the mechanic is saying that the gears in the transmission are pushing on the seal and that I need a new transmission. Do I need a new transmission or could something else be going on. My car is running fine.Had front axle and seal replaced, but I still have gear oil leak. What else could cause gear oil leak?
Where exactly is it leaking? You have mentioned front axle seals, and a clutch. The two are in separate places, and you never really say where it is leaking from.....Had front axle and seal replaced, but I still have gear oil leak. What else could cause gear oil leak?
i think its the seals and thay dont want to do it for free
what kind of car it could be the diff cover if you got one
or the seam where its bolted together depending on the type of car

Is GL-5 80w90 gear oil ok for the cvt transmission of a 50cc 4 stroke scooter?
It does not say on the scooter anywhere what type is reccomended but i read somewhere of ppl using gl-5 80w90 gear oil and ive also read about gl3. Please enlighten me =).Is GL-5 80w90 gear oil ok for the cvt transmission of a 50cc 4 stroke scooter?
GL5 grade is highest grade commonly available.
Many scooters spec GL3,,,gl5 is an UPgrade,,Large jump in quality and protection
80w90 is unnecessarily heavy for a a 50's load capacity and speed capability.
It will never come near Needing that.
70w or 75w will give excellent results,,,,and MIGHT even give a small bonus in performance(at least vs 80-90
CorrectaMUNDO ,,You guess Exactly Right about people dont understand.
They know so freakin' little ,they dont even know when they dont know.
................................
GL5 is Best Grade and THE thing to use.
If your Manual says GL3,,,open it to that page and put it under your scooter when you drain your old oil ,,,to keep your floor clean.
That's ALL a GL3 reccomendation is good for.
Use the lightest you can find which is gonna be 70 or 75.
Nothing really Bad or wrong about Heavier--up to a point,,,but it's not necessary.
Now lets see how many Thumbs Down and ';corrections'; I get about ,,,Ohhh,,,Gear Oil is Tooo Heavy!!!
75W is Toooo THICK!
Count them and you'll know Exactly how many people are willing to open their mouth without having a Clue,,,
or 1 minute to spare to learn about gear oil viscosity ratings
It'd be Funny sometimes if it wasn't so sad
Heck,,even Wikipedia has an article
';Gear oil is a motor oil made specifically for transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials in automobiles, trucks, and other machinery.';
';API GL-3, oils for moderate conditions. Contain up to 2.7% antiwear additives. Designed for lubricating bevel and other gears of truck transmissions. Not recommended for hypoid gears. ';
';API GL-5, oils for severe conditions. They contain up to 6.5% effective antiscuffing additives. The general application of oils in this class are for hypoid gears having significant displacement of axes. They are recommended as universal oils to all other units of mechanical transmission ';
';API viscosity ratings for gear oils are not directly comparable with those for motor oil, and they are thinner than the figures suggest. For example, many modern gearboxes use a 75W90 gear oil, which is actually of equivalent viscosity to a 10W40 motor oil';

If you happen upon a Synthetic at a decent price,,go for it.
You dont really NEED it,,but the benefits it offers is worth the couple extra bucks,if only for the extra ';safety factor'; when you go beyond a normal change interval,,,or run the scoot wide open for an hour nonstop, and so on.Is GL-5 80w90 gear oil ok for the cvt transmission of a 50cc 4 stroke scooter?
What kind of scooter- as in make, model, year. 4 stroke tells little more than engine type. Scooter CVT transmission usually means a belt drive/variable spaced pulley (Comet system) running dry but the DAF pattern double cone and metal band does run wet- but the few references to this type indicated Type F auto trans fluid- the same as old Ford auto transmissions. Simplex wheel and friction drive is also dry. GL5 gear lube has some sulfur and zinc that reacts with brass/bronze transmission pieces, GL3 is non sulfur and doesn't foul brass/bronze pieces like synchros, washers, shifting forks. What does engine call for- 10-30, 10-40, 20-40, straight 30 weight? Transmissions MAY call for same oil as engine- especially if engine/trans share common housing..
NO, do not use that, it's much too thick. Use 10/30 or 10/40 motor oil.
ADDED - No do not use ';MasterPro chemicals gl-5 80w-90 gear oil';.
It uses the same oil as the engine.
What TXm42 said.
I use whatever gear oil I have on hand.
A 50cc scooter isn't going to need a high grade of gear oil in the transmission case.
It's going to use 10w40 motor oil in the crankcase (engine oil).
i believe that all scooters have wet transmissions. meaning that your engine oil is gonna lubricate your transmission. so i wouldn't use gear oil. that could be really bad.
