RM 125 gear oil in gear case ?

getting colder now ..just got this vintage (*89 rebiult/stock) RM 125 couple weeeks ago....he's been using BellRay 80 in gearcase..isn't 80 on the heavy side?..local dealer says they come in stock 10/ 40 and yet he says some do run 80 in the su-zukes..y's that (double weight ?)..he really couldn't answer Y..new clutch good a broke in now , could it be time for a change ?

it has a new renthol 13f 51r sprocket set up ..thinking the rear aught to be around 48-49....any ideas on that ....neighbors( little) 04 YZ 85 is running a 12 / 47combo ..10/40 oil %26amp; punched 1 size over rings/piston and hangs right w the 125...in a shorty actually nudges the 125RM 125 gear oil in gear case ?
on a bike that age, either 10/40 or at a push the thicker 20/50.
