What is the gear oil change interval for integra? and can i flush it?

ok this may sound like a newbie question.

i bought a second hand 97 integra gsi 1.5 years back, now with almost 290kms on the clock. and im not sure when was the gear oil was last changed.

so just wonder what should be the gear oil change interval?

on top of that.. i just bought some REDLINE Lightweight Shockproof gear oil 75W90, and it was really expensive!!!

so. i wonder if there is anyway i can flush the gear box oil before the oil change? What is the gear oil change interval for integra? and can i flush it?
Manual transmission, I assume. 75W90 would be pretty evil in an automatic!

I don't recall the change interval, if there is one. My son does most of the maintenance on his '94 Integra and he has changed the oil once, when he bought it at 105K miles. The owner's manual is the authority on that.

The Redline 75W90 is not the right stuff for the Acura gearbox, unless something big changed between the '94 and the '97. The proper lubricant (gurus at alt.autos.honda usenet forum warn it is critical) is Honda Manual Transmission Fluid. It looks exactly like 30W engine oil, much thinner than 90W gear lube I have used in older cars, but still smells of sulfur on your hands. Some people have actually used 30W engine oil, but modern engine oil has no ZDDP (to protect the catalytic converter) and so does not prevent wear as well.

There is really nothing to flush on manual gearboxes. You will want to start with a warm engine to ensure the old lube is as fluid and as stirred up as it's going to get. When you pull the plug it pours out freely. Automatic transmissions have all sorts of places for fluid to hang out - torque converters, valve bodies, wonderful places like that - but in manual gearboxes it just drips right off.
