my carolla EA86 is leaking mad oil from the passenger side its coming from the shaft that turns the passenger side front wheel where it goes to the diff/gearbox i put it on car ramps and the big box thing thats connected to the shaft moves backwords and forwards how do i fix this please helpMajor oil leak from cv/gear box/diff passenger side seal?
well you have a front wheele drive so there is no front or rear diff thats your trany the shaft is a trans axle on your passenger side the cv is on the driver side the box is the hub there is a few seals on it there is 1 where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather there is 1 where the trans axle bolts to the hub there is 1 on the outside (behind where tire bolts to the studs) thats about all i can think of try washing it with a good degreaser and refill it with 80/90W gear oil there should be a fill plug on the back of the hub above or below where the trans axle goes to it if its the gasket where the 2 pices of the hub go togeather youll have to unbolt the trans axle then un bolt the hub pices the you can clean it real good and use some rtv to reseal it with if its the outer hub seal the you take the tyire off and there will be a big nutt in the middle of the tire studs take it out and the seal will be right there it looks like a metal ring with a ring of rubber on the in side of it you pull it out you can use a seal remover that you can rent at autozone or use a big wreach just make sure you dont scar the inside meatle of the hub and all so make sure you use a seal installer tool that you can all so rent at autozone to make sure that the new seal goes in straght if its the in side hub seal then take the tire off un bolt the trans axle from the hub and there is a seal just like i had talked about for the outer seal and just fallow the same steps hope to have help you all so you can look up a lot of trouble shooting and repair guids on autozone .com there all free you just sign up if ya need any thing elese then let me know
