Is the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?

i recently serviced my bike and i read somewhere that the gear box required liquid too.however my service garage didnt not put any.is there a seperate place for this or is the same as the engine oil liquidIs the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?
Most non Jap bikes and many Jap bikes have tranny and engine oil separate. Some will even have a separate oil running in primary. I own 29 bikes at the present and the only ones that have motor oil and tranny oil integrated are all Hondas. Is the engine oil liquid the same thing as the gear box liquid?or are they in 2 different places?
On cars, the gear box and engine oil are often shared.

In cars they are ALMOST ALWAYS different. At least they are separated even when they are the same type of oil

In my 94 Civic, the gear box takes engine oil. But even so, they are completely separated. Changing the oil does NOT change the oil in the gearbox.

Usually gearbox oil is thicker.

Good luck...
it depends most jap bikes the engine %26amp; gearbox are one unit so its same oil , old brits used to have separate gear box, if you told people what bike you had they would be able to answer better instead of generalizing.

we have 60 bikes in our bike club including ducati, yamaha, honda, suzuki, kawasaki, new triumph's %26amp; harlie all runing one oil as engine gearbox is one unit, i have suzuki, yamaha %26amp; honda, ALL ROAD BIKE'S- NOT OFF ROAD BIKES,
Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

The majority of 4 stroke motorcycle engines, the engine and gear box share the same oil (liquid).

Honda makes dirt bikes that have separate areas for engine oil and gear box oil.
I have a Honda Shadow Aero and engine and transmission oil are the same . When you change the oil it goes to both. However some motorcycles have different oil for transmission and engine.
I think it's the same on a 4 stroke engine. Call the dealer, find out the weight of the oil for future knowledge.
some motors share engine and gearbox oil, others have separate tanks.

for example, my 1991 xr250r has just one oil tank, but in 1996 they changed to a dry sump design with separate tanks
