As Robert M says the car is idling badly, as reinforced by the shaking and losing power and cutting out at a standstill. When the idle speed is too low, the oil pressure will also be too low, which is why the warning light is coming on. You need to address the idling problem, and when you get it running properly you will also have sorted out the warning light.





You mention it happens when you are stopped and in gear. It might be that the clutch is dragging, and pulling the idling speed down.
before you drive car check dipstick level add until it is between hash marks if it is down alot may have a leak oil and filter needs 2 b changed every 3k miles or 3 months which ever comes first.if oil is full idle is too low,needs tune up,or oil switch is bad.check levelASAP
Knowing what kind of car this is would help a lot. WHen your idle gets too low, the oil pressure drops a little bit and triggers the low oil light. In other words, you have a DIRTY IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. $3 can of gun-out will take care of this problem on most cars. Good luck!
Low oil or excessive oil or bad oil pump. Check your oil and correct the problem immediately. Do not run your engine at all with the oil light on rather it's cold or hot or just idling or whatever. It will blow up in a hurry.
Take it to Advanced Auto or Auto Zone they will test it for free just make sure the light is on when you have them come out and your car has to be 1996 or newer.
add some oil... thats why the oil light is on
