Oil slinger or something between harmonic balancer and timing chain gear?

my teacher told me that there was an ';oil slinger'; in between the harmonic balancer and the timing chain gear to protect the oil seal but i cant find anything that goes on there so does it take anything on there?? it is for an 85 ford 302 thanksOil slinger or something between harmonic balancer and timing chain gear?
Some older cars did have an oil slinger.

This was left out of the newer cars as seals got better and don't need a slinger any more.

Yours never had one.Oil slinger or something between harmonic balancer and timing chain gear?
i think the crank seal is cut in such a way that it leaves tiny groves that sling the oil away. on some any ways.
an oil slinger is a metal disc which sits on the rotating part behind the seal but its not fitted to all engines etc
