When is the right time to change my gear oil?

when the manufacture says (check owners manual) . A good rule of thumb is every 90-100,000 mi.And any time you open the gear housing like when changing a axel or replacing seals , or any time you check it and it has metal flakes or is milky from water contamination. When is the right time to change my gear oil?
heres an easy rule of thumb for car maintenance

everything other than your motor oil should be changed every 2 years or 24,000 miles. This would include differential fluid (the gear oil i assume you refer to), transmission fluid and filter, coolant and thermostat (people who live in extreme conditions such as AZ should do every spring before it gets too hot), power steering fluid, brake fluid, fuel filter, PCV valve, and air filter (though you should clean it with compressed air at least with every oil change). When is the right time to change my gear oil?
without knowing the basic information about the vehicle, ill say this much look in the owners manual and in the maintenance section . use the sever conditions section.
In What ?

I change the gear oil in the Harley transmission at 20-25,000 mi.
every 3mths or 3000 miles.
